Erosione costiera, il Salento la zona più a rischio d’Italia

Erosione costiera, effetto del riscaldamento globale. È quello che affermano gli esperti europei nella relazione del progetto “Clamer” (Climate change and European marine ecosystem research), con a capo lo scienziato Carlo Hipe. Lo studio avvalora gli allarmi e i richiami degli operatori del settore, e sempre secondo gli esperti la zona più a rischio in Italia sarebbe proprio il Salento: in particolare la costa Adriatica – ovvero Otranto, Santa Cesarea, Castro – ma anche Gallipoli e Porto Cesareo per lo Jonio, potrebbero vedere modificate radicalmente o andate perse le proprie risorse naturali principali fonti di reddito per il territorio, ovvero i litorali.

Cinque milioni di metri cubi di arenile sono infatti già spariti negli ultimi anni, con gravi conseguenze per il settore balneare e turistico salentino. Ne fanno le spese la flora e fauna costieri, che risentono di modificazioni ingenti, con gravi rischi anche per le città costiere, che della posizione geografica hanno fatto il loro punto di forza in termini di appeal turistico. L’aumento delle temperature, lo scioglimento dei ghiacci e il cambio dei venti ha portato all’accelerazione del 15% del preoccupante fenomeno per l’Europa. Già da anni vengono lanciati numerosi appelli da ambientalisti, operatori e nuovi fronti politici. È del marzo scorso la dichiarazione del presidente di Assobalneari Mauro Della Valle, che di concerto con il Movimento Giovanile Regione Salento aveva organizzato un sit-in di protesta presso le spiagge d’Otranto, per richiamare l’attenzione mediatica sul fenomeno, che rischiava di far saltare la stagione turistica allora alle porte. Il richiamo lanciato e ripetuto a gran voce su giornali e tv è stato sempre lo stesso: cercare una soluzione condivisa e sostenibile o permettere agli stessi operatori di fare qualcosa per conto proprio. Un esempio virtuoso è quello della Basilicata, che già nel 2009 ha affrontato il problema. Nella zona metapontina sono state studiate soluzioni di tipo naturale, come la realizzazione di scogliere di massi o il ricorso alla tecnologia dei “pennelli”, barriere di sabbia o tubi elastici posati sul fondo del mare che riducono l’azione delle correnti sull’arenile.
